Distinguishing between Facts and Opinions

Dear Students,
This is a new passage for this week. It's about distinguishing facts and opinions in the passage. Let study this skill, read and do the exercises below.

Aj. Pook

Wht is a fact?
Have you ever told someone your address ot the color of your house? If so, you were telling facts. A fact tells about something that can be proved. If you say, "I live in the blue house on Maple Street.", you are telling a fact.

What is an opinion?
Have you ever told soeone how you feel about something? If so, you were telling an opinion. An opinion tells what you think, fee, or believe. An opinion cannot be proved. If you say, "I can't stand the sound of my alarm clock.", you are expressing an opinion.

How do you find facts and opinion?
Some reading passages contain details that tell facts. Some also contain details that express opinions. Some contain both facts and opinions. You can tell the difference between a fact and an opinion by asking yourself one question: "Does this detial tells what someone thinks, feels or believes about something?" If you answer is "yes" then the detail is an opinion. If your answer is "no", then the detail is a fact.

Reading Activity: PizzaHut.com: 1-click Selling on Internet

Pizza Hut Inc.’s PizzaHut.com is seeing an increase in orders from customers who prefer the speed of one-click online ordering to the frequent experience of waiting on hold to place a phone order, Kelly Rader, manager of Internet ordering, tells Internet Retailer. The web is particularly helpful in smoothing out peak ordering periods on weekends, she adds.

“We do a grate part of business in a short period of time, so online ordering is very helpful, “Rader says, adding that it’s difficult for restaurant personnel to keep up with phone orders during peak periods. An increasing number of customers, she says, will hang up a phone orders while on hold and listening to a message about the option of ordering online.

Pizza Hut has improved its online customers’ ordering experience by providing them options for faster site visits, Rader says. Since many customers choose the same variety of pizza each time they order; they now have the option of using the single click “Repeat Last Order” feature, which stores the details of their prior order including address and payment option. Pizza Hut relies on Chicago-based site development firm Quick Order Inc. for its web site improvements.

Customers have responded to the faster ordering feature with more frequent visits and positive feedback, Rader says. “We’ve received a number of unsolicited comments from customers who say they order more online now because it’s easier and faster. “she says, adding that most feedback comes through an open-text form on PizzaHut.com.
